I hope to do two more of these small oils. I love the fact that they are on gallery wrapped canvas and don't require a frame. Although they are small, I thought that they would be perfect for a kitchen area. Once I finish the other two, their impact would be greater hung as three together. Often, people purchase small pieces of art and then hang them on huge areas of open wall space, which diminishes their importance. In an effective series, each painting relates to the next and when hung properly, fill a space as well as one large painting. Also, having a series means greater flexibility in rearranging the work. Vertical, horizontal, staggered...these are good options especially for awkward spaces that "need something."

I really like these. I look forward to seeing the series as it is completed. The apples have a nice glow.
It would be good to learn exactly how small this is. Do you leave the sides of your gallery wraps unpainted? I do that with my larger paintings and the white works fine, but I'm not happy with my smaller work left white at the sides. Still haven't decided on a solution, tho.
Nice to hear from you Harry...Actually, I have recently fallen in love with black gesso. I just gesso the whole canvas, including the side and then just paint on the front. The sides remain black and I can keep them matte or when I varnish the piece, let the sides be shiny. I used to continue the work around the sides, but stopped doing that as it looks somewhat unfinished. thanks for stopping by.
