The Torpedo Factory Visit

Everytime that I have the opportunity to go to Washington, DC I always want to stop in at the Torpedo Factory in Olde Towne Alexandria, Virginia. It is a lovely rabbit's warren of many studios representing all kinds of lovely art. Jewelry, sculpture, paintings, photography...all are there. This time on my latest visit, I didn't get past the front door as I met Susan Finsen, www.susanfinse.com while she was working in her studio. What a charming and lovely woman. Her work is incredible and something that makes me energized just to look at. We talked for sometime while she worked and I asked the normal bazillion questions that I usually do. Her work is large, full of bright vibrating color and so full of movement you actually wonder if it will jump right off and run across the room. I told her that it looked just like music to me...bright, moving, running, exuberant "stuff". All of Susan's work is abstract shapes that hang together beautifully and are often created in a series. She told me that she was one of the founding members of the Torpedo Factory and since its inception she has been working at her art there. I encourage you to look at her work and check out her website. You won't be disappointed. Nice to meet you Susan.
