Yesterday we hung the memorial show opening tonight at Olde Towne Art for Nicole Wichman, who died shortly before Christmas. The show will be open to the public for 2 weeks and only represents about a third of her work that is currently available and unsold.
It made me very sad.
She was talented and funny and created some fascinating stuff. And now she's gone and leaves behind a six year old son who really doesn't probably understand what all of this means.
What a waste.
It's hard to look at some of her work and not see how she struggled and how deeply she felt about many things; her family, her friends, her politics.
One day you see someone and then, poof! they are swept away and all you have left is your memories. At least with artists, you have their work to remember them by.

Yes, yesterday was difficult for many people. It warmed my heart how many came, and the good words they spoke in memory of Nicole. The show is truly amazing, so there's still time for folks who couldn't come to see it. We missed you, Laura.
I'm reminded that we aren't promised tomorrow, and that it is vital that I live today to my utmost. There will most likely be lots of people who feel similarly challenged by losing Nicole's presence in our community and individual lives.
She left us much too soon.
