Autumn is a wonderful place to be when you live in New England. People from all over the country travel to enjoy the season and become "leafer peepers" as many of the leaves turn brilliant colors.
My mother-in-law was visiting and we had just enjoyed a fine lunch at the Concord Inn which is right in the middle of town on the town square. It is an historic white columned building that has a front porch that faces the square.
I was looking at a tree and by the front door and just taking in the changing leaves, when I noticed, upon closer observation, that the leaves on the tree had been painted RED! Somehow I felt cheated. Of all the plastic things on the earth, this only seemed like another betrayal. We laughed at our discovery and hoped that this practice was simply because of perhaps a previous photo shoot or other necessary marketing plan.
So this painting is of my memory of that day, the front of the Concord Inn, as well as a little Robert Frost and his birch trees thrown in for flavor.
