Yesterday I worked at Riverview Gallery in Portsmouth. In exchange for my time, the owner, Wayne Potrafka, http://waynepotrafka.myexpose.com/ ,
allows me to hang some of my work there. I work one day and week and get my "artist fix" by meeting and talking with others all day about art. Last night was the opening of a Wildlife show for First Friday with various mediums and works depicting animals of all kinds. Lexy Blake, a young musician from Norfolk, strummed away on her guitar, entertaining all of the guests at the reception while we munched on appetizers and wandered about. A nice event.
Wayne has been very good at supporting artists; whether they are new and still learning or are more established. During these difficult economic times, he has had to rethink how business is conducted in order to remain open. Ergo, the "volunteer" arrangement that he has with his artists.
Gallery business is pretty much an unknown area for me, but suffice to say, if it weren't for people like Wayne, many artists would be without a home to show their work.
So, no work to show today...only tired feet from working all day yesterday.

Hey, Laura. Great post. Sounds like you're getting your artist fix at Riverview. I like the artwork you posted. Keep this blog going. It will really help get your name out there.
