Spring Brights
I painted this a couple of weeks ago and while working kept trying to keep things more angular and squarish. I am happy with the result and the colors which are very clean and pop well. It is going into the Norfolk Academy Art Show, which opens on the 30th of April. Lots to do to get ready. I have promised several people that I will start posting prices and sizes. This is 18x24, in a wide, gold, plein aire frame and will sell for 475.00. Once I am through with this show stuff I will get back to my Palette of Places and will be working on Lexington, Virginia.

Wiesloch, Germany Vineyard-A Palette of Places
When we lived in Germany (the third time), our house had many walking trails and vineyards behind our house. I walked this area many times throughout the year and each season brought different colors depending upon what the vines were doing. Here are my vines on a hillside with bright sunlight and shadows.

Palette of Places-Newport, Rhode Island
A bright, sunny day with just enough cool air so as to not be hot, sunlight dotting the water, sailboats everywhere, jazz music filling the air, friends laughing, white wine cold in a glass, and just sailing.

A Palette of Places-Central Park
Another painting for the series. I have used an Artisan product that is an impasto that you mix with the pigment without changing the color. It allows you to build up texture on the canvas without having to worry about future drying problems or cracking. It fascinates me that such a large park exists in one of the biggest cities in the world. You can drive around it and see all of the edges or dive in and walk through the park for another view. Who doesn't love Central Park in New York?

"A Palette of Places" New Series Begins
I haven't posted for awhile as I have been busy with shows and this new series of paintings I have begun. About the series...
I decided that after having lived and visited a bazillion places over the years that everytime I have a quiet moment to sit and recall these places from my past, a certain palette emerges in my mind. This "palette" is an unformed, slightly blurry image of distinctive colors and the very first thing that comes to mind, evoking the specific place in my head. Depending upon the place visited, the impact that it had on my life at the time, who the people were that I knew and the events that took place, all of these factors have an impact on the palette of colors I feel. And I do feel the colors. I could write eons about this and surely will over the next month or so as I work on the paintings. I have completed two, two others are almost finished and need tweaking. The sizes of the canvas are chosen based on the impact the palette I feel has had on my life. Some of the "places" I spent only a short time, others I revisted many times. Some places are well known and some are obscure. Right now, I have a list of about 50 places I have been carrying around in my head and I am in a real furor to get them out and onto a canvas. More to come...
This one above is called PARIS.
